Officials in Sacramento County are looking into a gun violence incident that erupted Saturday evening at Howe Park at the moment authorities were shutting down an unauthorized event of hundreds of attendees.
What Led to the Shooting
Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office first arrived at the Arden-Arcade park at about half past six in the evening after being notified of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. After that, a follow-up call was made about an alleged brawl breaking out at Howe Park.
Aerial units flew over the park but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Regardless, it was apparent that an enormous crowd had come together at the location in an unauthorized manner.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by surrounding the park and announcing over their public address systems directing the crowd to disperse at once. Nearly 15 minutes were given for attendees to disperse.
As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition rang out. The barrage of gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Responding personnel quickly moved to locating gunshot victims.
Those Who Were Hit
Altogether, four people were discovered with shooting injuries. All four — including a female and three males ranging in age through their in their 20s — were brought to nearby hospitals. Doctors and nurses confirmed that two victims were in serious condition, one had moderate injuries, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. According to authorities, all four were expected to survive.
Sacramento fire crews also responded and aided in treating the four victims at the park.
Crime Scene Evidence
The center of the incident was confirmed to have been concentrated along the Cottage Way side of the park close to the local Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Crime scene investigators discovered extra shell casings along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were identified in the iron fence adjacent to the Home Depot. This ballistic evidence confirmed that a shooter had been aiming south from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was put under lockdown for a period of time. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives remained on scene late into the evening.
Suspects Detained
Reports confirmed via scanner audio indicated that a suspect Kia had been detained in Solano County. Four people were held for questioning. Sheriff's units were heading to pick up the four detainees to transport the detainees for processing in Sacramento County. Video evidence made clear that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
